IMPORTANT NEWS regarding REGISTRATION for RC FOUNDATION class:
Ongoing Registration Starting from August 2025!
I'm excited to announce that starting August 2025, registration for the FOUNDATION RC class will be open year-round – just like it already is for the ADVANCED class!
This means you no longer have to wait for a new class cycle to begin. Instead, you can start training whenever it best suits you and your dog – especially considering your dog's age and individual needs. Join in any month that works for you!
How it works in practice:
- If you register anytime in July, your individually adapted FOUNDATION RC class will start on August 1st.
- If you register anytime in August, your individually adapted FOUNDATION RC class will begin on September 1st, and so on...
➡️ Please note: There will be occasional scheduled breaks (such as holidays or instructor vacation), but these dates will always be announced in advance. And no worries, any breaks will be added to the duration of your class, so you won’t lose any training time.
IMPORTANT NEWS regarding RC FOUNDATION class:
I am also excited to say that the FOUNDATION RC class have been UPDATED! Partly with how we chronologically follow the program and partly with adding few new features that have been quite a game changers (like 2STS /two strider top spot/, 3STS /three strider top spot/, fake DW instead of just target on the floor,...). All that has contributed to the fact, that a lot of dogs who are OLD ENOUGH (including dogs in RETRAINING) progress very quickly with their training and are after few weeks ready to move to advanced class where they start running full DW with great success.
Because of that I wish to give everyone an honest opinion about WHEN to join the class.
1) If you are new to RC training and/or you wish to start this training with younger dog, then no problem to join the class with dogs that are around 8 to 9 months old. In this case we will progress very gradually with training, have a lot of fun with generalising behaviour on the floor (specially with fake DW and introducing different situations after it- like static toy, (straight) tunnel, wing, adding your movement and running, increasing distances, having fun with discrimination games,...). We will also take time to build muscle memory and you will become an expert about how to find 2STS and set your dog for success in any situation. With so young dogs we will work a lot also on motivation, making them love the game, but with still very limited number of repetitions.
2) In case you wish to progress a bit faster with RC training, then no problem to wait and join the class when dog is around 10 months old. Like mentioned, with few changes in the class, dogs that are old enough are mostly progressing very fast with their training (running full DW just weeks after joining the class). Also in the case of joining the class with 10+month old dog, we will of course take time to make dog love the game, teach you all about importance of 2STS and correct rewarding, adapt the training to the individual needs of your dog (specially regarding motivation and optimal state of mind), but we will start very soon with plank/DW training (parallel to target on the floor games) and 2STS will allow us to build muscle memory of perfect hits from beginning and then also soon progress to full DW.
3) This class is also highly suitable for dogs whose current running contact performance isn’t quite where you’d like it to be.
If you’re looking to retrain or improve your dog's RC, this is a great place to start. We’ll begin with the foundation program to rebuild understanding and confidence, set great foundations and then adapt the training plan individually based on your dog’s needs and progress.
Since retrained dogs are often older and more experienced, their training plan will typically differ from that of younger dogs—both in pace and structure. If you're joining the class with the goal of retraining your dog’s current RC performance, you can generally expect a faster progression. Your dog may move more quickly through the foundation steps, start dog walk (DW) training earlier, and be ready to join the ADVANCED class sooner than a younger or less experienced dog.
That said, the program is designed to be flexible and adaptable for every team. Whether you're working with a young dog just starting out, or retraining an experienced one, we’ll adjust the pace and exercises to fit your dog’s individual needs.
Flexible Upgrade to ADVANCED Class
Another great update is that you can now move from FOUNDATION to ADVANCED RC class on the 1st of any month!
This means no more long waits—you can continue your training when it’s most optimal for your individual dog. Even better: if you complete the FOUNDATION RC class in less than 12 weeks, any unused weeks will be added to your ADVANCED RC class!
Planning Private Lessons for FOUNDATION RC?
If you're considering private lessons for FOUNDATION RC and haven’t yet audited the online class, I recommend doing so a few weeks before you wish to start your lesson.
This will help you become familiar with the program and allow you to start some of the exercises early (if your dog is old enough). The video lessons are clear and easy to follow, so you’ll already be on your way—making your private sessions even more effective and productive.
Important: The waiting list for private lessons is usually several months long. To avoid disappointment, please reach out early to check availability and reserve your spot.
Build Strong Running Contact Foundations – For Every Dog from 8 Months On
After the huge success of my original RC class, I'm excited to offer the FOUNDATION RC class—designed for all dogs from 8 months of age, whether you're starting fresh or looking to retrain.
The biggest reason why I decided to open also “FOUNDATION” of the RC class is, seeing how much my program with TARGET on the floor training helps dog UNDERSTAND and GENERALISE the behaviour and how much less repetitions on plank/DW are needed because of that. Big part of this target on the floor training (specially in combination with FAKE DW) can be without problems done also with younger dogs, since it has low impact on their bodies -it is nothing more then controlled running on the floor (much more controlled running then most dogs /puppies/ do on their daily walks running around in the woods), but at the same time, it challenges the brain and helps you build great understanding. And besides building great UNDERSTANDING of targeting regardless of WHAT is FOLLOWED after target (food machine, toy, wing, tunnel, “nothing”,…) and regardless of your MOVEMENT / BODY POSITION, we will also add some games, which will already help with DISCRIMINATIONS (like discrimination between target and tunnel,…) and help us PROOF the behaviour to perfection. Besides that, one REALLY important part of my RC training is also building CORRECT MUSCLE MEMORY of running through target from beginning (we all know that when building muscle/brain memory, it is much easier to teach the dog from beginning the correct behaviour/movement, then having to change and re-write it later). And besides that, building muscle memory also takes time, so starting slower with younger dogs is another benefit. And building CORRECT muscle memory will be also one really important part of training RC with younger dogs, because once dog masters the correct muscle memory of running through target, teaching RC becomes really easy.
And just like with ADVANCED RC class, we will also in this FOUNDATION RC class pay a lot of attention to probably one of the most important parts of any RC training : ADAPTING the class/method to every individual dog, based on his CHARACTER, SIZE, PHYSICAL ABILITIES,… ! Individual differences between dogs play a huge role when choosing the optimum training for every dog. Because of that, you have many different types of exercises in this class, which will help you get the best from every dog. Like mentioned, the approach of training for crazy, powerful dog cannot be the same as with less motivated, more sensitive dog!
Last but not least, I also put a lot of attention to SAFETY (you get that when you train RC with malinois :)) and that is another reason why I do many RC foundations away from full DW. We will also talk a LOT about all important equipment SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, which are much more important then you might think, because unsafe conditions are not only DANGEROUS for dogs, but they can also make your RC training much less successful (things like slippery target, ugly edge on lower heights,… can soon lead into over reaching, getting caught into FF hit pattern, avoiding target,…).
Ready to Join?
So if you want to build reliable, confident running contacts—whether you're starting with a young dog or retraining an experienced one—you're warmly welcomed to join this FOUNDATION RC class. With over 20 years of RC experience, 10+ years of on-line classes (with over 4,000+ students enrolled in my classes) I’ve created a flexible program which will fully adapt to your dog’s needs while building strong, safe foundations for long-term success. Once completed, you will then be able to move on to the ADVANCED RC class (click here to learn more).
👉 Please note: Joining the ADVANCED RC class is only possible for students who have first participated in the FOUNDATION RC class, either as an auditor or a working team.

APPROPRIATE FOR: dogs from 8 months of age and up ( including those you wish to retrain or improve in their running contact performance). Whether you're starting fresh with a young dog or looking to re-train an older dog, this class is designed to adapt to both. If your dog is already familiar with using a food machine and a static toy, that’s a great head start! If not—don’t worry—we’ll teach and build those skills together in the class.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: In the first few weeks, you’ll need: a TARGET, a “FOOD MACHINE” (or similar reward delivery system), a TOY, a "FAKE DW" and occasionally an access to few WINGS and one TUNNEL (it can be as short as 3-4m). For some dogs you will also need a strider. As training progresses, you will also need access to a dog walk (at first you can substitide DW for just a plank). And no worries - we’ll go over all equipment details (such as target size, fake DW, and setups) once you join the class to make sure everything is well-suited for your dog and your space.

“SNEAK PEAK” INTO THE EXERCISES FROM THE CLASS:
Examples of GRADUATION videos:
Here is Katarina’s RC Advanced class graduation video. Sancho often had trouble focusing on targets.
I was not good at motivating him, Katarina taught him clearly and repeatedly gently and carefully so he wouldn’t get sick of it
He was toddling around at first, now 11 weeks later he is running DW like I wanted him to.
I really appreciate it, he still can’t do a lot of things.
Please continue to guide me
Starting on September 27, 2024, I took Katarina’s online seminar on running contact for 12 weeks. This is the graduation video from the seminar.
Actually, I broke my ankle on September 16, just before the seminar, and started the seminar in a situation where I was unable to move due to a cast.
However, Katarina gave me accurate advice within the scope of my movement, and I learned what I could do because I could not move. Kabosu and I were able to share a truly wonderful time at this seminar.
My leg has recovered, and I would like to move forward with Kabosu towards the next step.
Thank you so much, Katarina!
I look forward to your continued support!
